Why is this not surprising?
Mohammed Nuru was San Francisco’s longtime director of public works went by the Twitter handle @MrCleanSF, and neither reports of ethical breaches nor criticism of harsh tactics in clearing out homeless people from doorways or encampments eroded his clout at City Hall_until NOW.
On Tuesday, his reign over the streets appeared to come to an abrupt end.
The federal corruption charges against Nuru were striking in both their breadth and their reach into what would seem to be the tiniest opportunity for a powerful public official to glean personal gain from his position.
In words that should cause pangs of guilt and self-reflection among all elected officials who looked the other way over the years, U.S. Attorney David Anderson said Tuesday, “The complaint alleges corruption pouring into San Francisco from around the world.” He said Nuru was accused of “corruption, bribery kickbacks and side deals.”
Some of those side deals involved Nick Bovis, owner of the popular throwback bar-restaurant Lefty O’Doul’s, also arrested in connection with schemes to obtain leases at San Francisco International Airport and the Transbay transit center and to get a competitive edge in other city contracts. Another kickback scam involved a Chinese developer who was seeking favorable treatment in the building and inspection process.
Nuru will get his day in court on these charges. But his protectors at City Hall can’t claim there weren’t red flags that this protege of former Mayor Willie Brown was stretching the bounds of propriety as a public servant. Back in 2004, he was the subject of a Chronicle investigative story that described alleged wrongdoing ranging from misuse of taxpayer funds to election violations in a mayoral runoff won by Gavin Newsom.
Still, Nuru stayed on the job, mostly due to his mastery of the cleanup at any price. The question posed by the charges is whether that price included a soiling of City Hall’s integrity.
Jewish journalist, Laura Loomer, paid a visit to Governor Newsom’s mansion earlier this year to showcase his hypocritical stance on illegal immigration. The video trended number one on Twitter and got her arrested. Below is the video. Loomer trended number one despite being deplatformed the previous fall for exposing Ilhan Omar as anti Jewish and pro Sharia. Loomer is fighting back and has declared a run for Congress in President Trump’s home district. She’s been endorsed by Judge Jeanine, Michelle Malkin, Brandon Straka, and the Limbaugh team because of her willingness to take on corruption.
