Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko said Thursday that the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland didn’t link military aid to the country to the opening of an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden over his son’s paid board position with an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian gas company, while his father was working with the country diplomatically, reported by Interfax Ukraine.
“I have never seen a direct relationship between investigations and security assistance.” said Prystaiko, “Yes, the investigations were mentioned, you know, in the conversation of the presidents. But there was no clear connection between these events.”

On Wednesday, William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, testified for hours before U.S. lawmakers as part of the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Taylor testified that a member of his staff overheard a July 26 phone call between the President and Amb. Sondland, in which they discussed whether to proceed with “the investigations.” Following the call, Taylor’s staffer said he asked Sondland directly about the President’s stance on Ukraine to which Sondland replied: “President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden.”
“Following that meeting, in the presence of my staff at a restaurant, Ambassador Sondland called President Trump and told him of his meetings in Kiev. The member of my staff could hear President Trump on the phone, asking Ambassador Sondland about ‘the investigations,’” Taylor told lawmakers.
“Ambassador Sondland told President Trump that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward. Following the call with President Trump, the member of my staff asked Ambassador Sondland what President Trump thought about Ukraine. Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for.”
Democratic lawmakers continue to argue that there was in fact a ‘quid-pro-quo’ agreement between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after an anonymous whistleblower came forward with the allegation. The White House released the transcript of that July 25 phone call arguing that there was no evidence of ‘quid-pro-quo.’
They have been calling for President Trump’s impeachment since inauguration.
